Update: Friday, October 28, 2016 – The altercations resulted in injuries to both staff and individuals in custody.
Two correctional deputies transported to the hospital on Tuesday night for treatment of non-life threatening injuries have since been released from the hospital.A third correctional deputy who was injured while responding to the altercations was also treated at an area hospital on Tuesday night and has been released.
The eight individuals in custody taken to area hospitals for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, including puncture wounds, all returned to the jail by Thursday.
Of the eight individuals in custody transported to the hospital, four are being held at the jail on murder charges. One is being held on attempted murder. One is being held on home invasion with a firearm and residential burglary. One is being held on armed robbery, and one is being held on manufacturing/delivery of narcotics. The bonds for these eight individuals in custody range from $110,000 to no bond.
The investigation into the altercations, as well as the source of the weapons used, is ongoing.

Friday, October 28, 2016 — The Cook County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the source of individual in custody altercations that occurred on Tuesday night in a maximum security division of the Cook County Jail, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.
Eight individuals in custody housed in Division 9 of the jail were transported to area hospitals by the Chicago Fire Department on Tuesday night for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, including puncture wounds.
Two correctional deputies, who were struck by food trays, were also transported on Tuesday night to area hospitals for treatment for nonlife threatening injuries. One deputy has been treated and released, and the other remains in the hospital for observation.
Three of the individuals in custody transported have been treated and released. Five remain at area hospitals for observation.
Other individuals in custody with minor injuries were treated on site at the jail.
