Sheriff’s Police Seek Information on Maine Township Homicide

COOK COUNTY, IL – Cook County Sheriff’s Police investigators are seeking information from the public to help solve a homicide that occurred last year in unincorporated Maine Township.

At approximately 3:50 p.m. on April 22, 2021, Erik Esquivel was shot multiple times in the 9600 block of Greenwood Road while he sat in his red Honda sedan. The 18-year-old was taken to Lutheran General Hospital where he died.

The shooter, described as a male, wearing a mask and a knit cap, fled the scene in a silver Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep was recovered in the Rogers Park neighborhood and investigators learned that it had been stolen.

Esquivel had lived in Maine Township for just a few months before he was killed. He moved from Rogers Park after he had been shot at in November.
