Man Charged with Aggravated DUI in Traffic Crash, Critically Injuring Crestwood Police Officer

COOK COUNTY, IL – A 65-year-old Indiana man has been charged with Aggravated Driving Under the Influence in connection with a traffic crash that critically injured a Crestwood Police Officer, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.

At approximately 8 p.m. on Nov. 20, a gray Kia struck a Crestwood Police vehicle at Midlothian Turnpike and South Pulaski Road in Crestwood. The police vehicle was on scene for an unrelated motor vehicle accident. The police vehicle then struck one of the Crestwood officers on scene, critically injuring him.

The officer remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Cook County Sheriff’s Police detectives investigated this incident at the request of Crestwood Police. During their investigation, detectives learned the driver of the offending vehicle was under the influence at the time of the crash.

The driver, identified as Gregory Hilson, was charged on Nov. 22 with Aggravated Driving Under the Influence. His bond was set at $50,000-D on Nov. 23 at the Bridgeview Courthouse. Hilson has been in the hospital for an unrelated medical issue.

The public is reminded that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law.
