COOK COUNTY, IL – The three individuals in custody involved in a brutal assault on two correctional deputies in the Cook County jail earlier this week will face multiple charges, including attempted murder, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.
In addition to one count of attempted murder, all three individuals in custody will be charged with two counts of aggravated battery with great bodily harm, two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer and two counts of felony mob action.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 19-year-old David Bush, 20-year-old Taiwan McNeal and 20-year-old Terrence Lynom repeatedly punched two correctional deputies in a housing tier in Division 9, the super-maximum facility. The two deputies are currently recovering from their injuries.
This incident serves as a harrowing reminder that correctional staff puts their lives on the line every day in the line of duty. When individuals in custody feel they can compromise the safety of staff, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office will seek the highest possible charges under the law. The Sheriff commends the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office for their support in bringing these unprecedented charges forth.
All three individuals in custody are scheduled to appear in Cook County bond court on Sunday, April 30.
Sheriff Dart reminds the public that the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law.
