What is SWAP?
The Sheriff’s Work Alternative Program (SWAP) was established to reduce jail overcrowding by providing an alternative to incarceration.
Judges sentence non-violent offenders to SWAP. This allows them to perform community service instead of serving time. SWAP provides labor to municipalities, government agencies, and not-for-profit organizations.
Supervised by sheriff’s deputies, SWAP crews perform a variety of public works projects such as cleaning parks, viaducts and streets seven days a week.
How do I register for SWAP?
Offenders sentenced to the Sheriff’s Work Alternative Program must call a SWAP office (312) 603-2480 or (708 865-6510) within 72 hours to be referred to a SWAP Registration Office. Registration at a SWAP office should be completed within 30 days from Court date.
Masks must be worn while on County property. Participants will receive a copy of all rules and regulations and working schedules at their orientation session.
