At the time of eviction, the sheriff makes a social worker available to intervene and advocate for individuals being evicted and requiring assistance.

The social worker takes numerous steps to ensure the mentally ill are given the help they need:

  • Connects individuals facing eviction with social service agencies in their area
  • Arranges for the appropriate social service agencies to be on scene during the eviction
  • Works to have the Mobile Triage Unit to be on scene during the eviction if hospitalization for mental health is a possibility
  • Coordinates with family members to petition for psychological evaluation if the individual does not meet the criteria for our office to involuntarily commit
