Correctional Officer Comes to Injured Pedestrian’s Aid

Dec 14, 2015Press Release

An off-duty Cook County Sheriff’s correctional officer came to the aid of an injured pedestrian in Skokie last week.

At approximately 5:35 p.m. on Dec. 9, Officer Wade Wicker, who works in DOC, was alerted to a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle in the 5400 block of Lincoln Avenue. Officer Wicker found the 81 year-old victim, who had a head injury, lying in the street.

The officer immediately went into action. He checked to see if the man was responsive, which he was. After the officer learned that 9-1-1 had been called, he instructed a bystander to redirect traffic. Officer Wicker told the man not to move in case there were additional injuries to his neck or back and kept the injured man alert and talking until Skokie Police arrived. Paramedics transported the man to an area hospital for treatment.

We salute Officer Wicker for his selflessness and compassion to help and for his quick-thinking that aided the on-duty first responders.
