Safety Tips

Child Safety Tips for Parents | Personal Safety for Children Guide

  • Reassure your child that most people are safe.

  • Teach your child it is acceptable to say “no,” even to an adult.

  • Make sure your child knows his or her address, phone number, parents’ names and how to reach a parent at work.

  • Never write your child’s name on items like bookbags, clothes, and lunch boxes-don’t allow child abductors t be on a first name basis with your child!

  • Establish a safe route for your child to walk to and from school and point out safe places they can go for help.

  • Never leave your child anywhere alone.

  • Teach your child to always “CHECK FIRST.” Practice role-plays with your child regularly, asking your child what he or she would do if asked to do a favor for a grown-up or get into a car with someone other than you.

  • Encourage your child to trust his or her instincts and feelings.

  • Remind your child that his or her safety is most important.
