The Sheriff’s Audit and Inspection Unit (SAIU) is the department within the Cook County Sheriff’s Office that conducts scheduled audits, management audits, a review of areas of vulnerability and/or any inquiries or other special projects at the direction of the Executive Office. The SAIU collects and tracks data from department inspectors. The results of those audits and special projects are reported to the Executive Office and used to evaluate and improve policy and procedure and the financial performance of the Sheriff’s Office.
The SAIU is comprised of a group of trained auditors who possess knowledge and experience from their work within the Sheriff’s Office. Auditors work closely with all members of the department to implement improvements and fiscal responsibility.
Requests for audits can be made by any member of the department or any citizen. All requests will be evaluated and classified. Those requests can be sent to:
