ROBBINS HOMICIDE, 2011 SHOOTING

Home > Press Page

Saturday, May 18, 2013 —A man already in Cook County Jail custody has been charged with first degree murder for a 2012 homicide and with aggravated battery with a firearm for a 2011 shooting -- both of which occurred in the Village of Robbins, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.

Antwaan BryantAntwaan Bryant, 33, of Robbins, appeared in Bond Court at the George N. Leighton Criminal Court Building, where his bond was set at $2 million for the murder charge and $500,000 for the aggravated battery with a firearm charge.

According to a Cook County Sheriff’s Police and Robbins Police investigation, Bryant and an unidentified person shot and killed Antown Childs on the morning of June 29, 2012 while he was in a parked car in the 13400 block of South Clifton Park Avenue.

According to the investigation, Bryant pointed a gun into the vehicle’s open passenger side window and demanded money from Childs about 4:15 a.m. that day. When Childs tried grabbing the gun from Bryant and fighting back, Bryant and the unknown person each shot him with the gun and then fled on foot.

Bryant has also been charged with an aggravated battery with a firearm for a July 30, 2011 shooting at a gas station in the 13500 block of South Kedzie Avenue in Robbins.

Bryant got out of his car, approached the victim in his vehicle with a gun approximately 3:10 a.m. that day, according to the Sheriff’s Police and Robbins Police investigation.

The victim unsuccessfully tried to wrestle the gun away from the offender, and the victim was shot in the back when he tried to run away.

Bryant is currently housed at Cook County Jail on three other unrelated charges: unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, attempted murder, and violation of bail bond.

His next court date is scheduled for May 21 at the Markham courthouse.

Sheriff Dart reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law.
