—Bond was set at $150,000 Friday for a west suburban man charged with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.
Ramon Segura, 68, of the 10300 block of West Lyndale Ave. in unincorporated Melrose Park, is charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under 13. He appeared in Maywood bond court on Friday.
Cook County Sheriff’s Police detectives began their investigation after the victim – who had behavior changes that concerned her family – talked about the incident with a school counselor. According to the victim, she was alone with Segura in June at a suburban house, where he offered her alcohol. After drinking several shots of liquor, the victim said she felt ill and went to lie down. A short time later, Segura entered the room and began fondling her. Though she told him to stop numerous times, he continued to assault her until his phone rang and he stopped. Segura told the victim not to tell anyone about the incident and left the room.
When questioned by investigators, Segura initially denied any involvement in the acts, though he later admitted to it, providing a full confession to the assault. The victim and her family knew Segura, but the Cook County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing any further information, in order to protect the identity of the victim.
Segura is set to appear in court again on Aug. 11.
