— The Cook County Sheriff’s office is joining forces with area communities for this year’s 28th Annual National Night Out Against Crime on Tuesday, August 2nd. The nationwide event is intended to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
As in previous years, the Sheriff’s Office is co-sponsoring Maine Township’s National Night Out event, which will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Dee Park, 9229 Emerson Road. Between 800 and 1,000 people are expected to attend.
Participating Sheriff’s Police departments include the Bomb Unit; Hostage, Barricade and Terrorism team; Community Relations; Gang Unit; K-9 and helicopter units. A member of the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Financial Crimes Unit will give a presentation on financial safety and senior financial crimes. The Sheriff’s Office will also provide information on its Senior Services – Cell Phones for Seniors Program. In addition, the Youth Services Safety Town program will be at the Maine Township event. Safety Town is an interactive and educational program on traffic safety for kids ages 5-8 in which participants enter a miniature city in pedal cars for a hands-on learning experience.
The Sheriff’s Office will also have a presence at Midlothian, Arlington Heights and Berwyn’s National Night Out events.
