Home > Press Page

Monday, May 20, 2013Two men are facing first degree murder charges in connection with the death of a 35-year-old Markham man whose body was found in April in unincorporated Calumet City, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.

Brandon Johnson Lester Larkin

A joint investigation with Harvey Police led to the arrest of 27-year-old Brandon Johnson, of Harvey, and 25-year-old Lester Larkin, of Riverdale, for the shooting death of Eddie Bell.

Both men were denied bond during their court appearance this morning in Markham.

On April 16, Cook County Sheriff’s Police were called to the 13800 block of South Thornton Road in unincorporated Calumet City following the discovery of a man’s body who had been shot multiple times. The victim was identified as Bell, who had been the subject of a missing person’s investigation conducted by the Harvey Police Department.

On March 30, Harvey Police began investigating a crime scene at Johnson’s residence in the 14000 block of South Hoyne, where Bell was last seen. Gunfire was reported in that location. When Harvey Police executed a search warrant at the location, they found blood, weapons and cleaning materials, but no body.

Harvey Police and Sheriff’s Police officers collaborated using the information gathered in their respective jurisdictions to identify Johnson and Larkin as suspects in Bell’s homicide.
First degree murder charges were approved for both men on May 19.

Sheriff Dart reminds the public that the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law.
