—An investigation by the Cook County Sheriff’s Central Warrant Unit and the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force led to the arrest of a 27-year-old man wanted in connection with the death of a Los Angeles woman, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.
Laevin Weatherspoon was taken into custody at approximately 11:10 p.m. Wednesday after Central Warrant Unit officers located him at a shelter in the 1400 block of S. Canal Street in Chicago. Members of the Central Warrant Unit searched for Weatherspoon in downtown Chicago after they received information from the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force that he was in that area.
A $1 million arrest warrant was issued for Weatherspoon in Los Angeles County on Feb. 11. He is wanted in connection with the death of Wanda Threadgill, 45. Her body was found in December inside her Los Angeles apartment.
Sheriff Dart reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law.
