HOLIDAY BEATING PUTS MAN IN HOSPITAL
Wednesday, July 07, 2010— Bond has been set for three men accused of beating another man during a holiday weekend gathering that turned violent, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart announced Wednesday.
Defendants Juan Mendez-Romulo, 30, Victor Romulo, 20, and Vicente Jimenez, 20, all of the 7500 block of North Elmhurst Rd. in Elk Grove Township, got into an altercation with the victim over his treatment of a relative on July 3rd. The victim wanted to discuss the matter the following day when they weren’t drinking, but the fight continued to escalate, and turned into a physical confrontation. Mendez-Romulo, Romulo and Jimenez admitted to beating the victim in the head and body using fists, feet and a concrete block. The victim has stated he doesn’t recall whether he, or the defendants, started the physical attack.
The victim was put into a medically-induced coma after the incident, but was able to give an interview to police on July 5th. As a result of the attack the victim suffered multiple maxilo-facial fractures, including to the orbit of his right eye, and a small hemorrhage to the frontal lobe of the brain.
Mendez-Romulo was charged with aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and aggravated battery (great bodily harm). Victor Romulo was charged with aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery (great bodily harm). Vicente Jimenez was charged with aggravated battery (great bodily harm).
All three appeared in Rolling Meadows bond court on July 6th. Judge Joel Greenblatt set Mendez-Romulo bond at $100,000, Romulo’s at $50,000, and Jimenez’ at $35,000.
The next court date for the three defendants is July 23 in Rolling Meadows.
