Home > Press Page

Friday, Febuary 05, 2010 — The Cook County Sheriff’s Police are asking for the public’s assistance for information related to a fatal hit and run accident that occurred Tuesday night in Ford Heights.

The victim, Ronald Sims, 61, of Hazel Crest, was riding his bike on Cottage Grove near 11th Street when he was struck by a vehicle, knocked off his bike and left on the side of the road.  At approximately 9pm, a concerned citizen saw Sims on the side of the road and proceeded to the Ford Heights municipal complex to alert authorities.  That citizen is not suspected in the accident.  Sims was initially transported to St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights and then airlifted to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn.  Sims eventually died from the injuries sustained in the hit and run accident.

Evidence found at the scene indicates that the vehicle involved in the accident is a 1996-2002 Chevrolet van, color unknown.

Anyone with information about the hit and run accident is asked to call the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Investigations Section at (708) 865-4896.
