Tuesday, October 1, 2013A 25-year-old Sauk Village man was arrested Monday night after a standoff with Cook County Sheriff’s Police, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said today.

At approximately 8:40 p.m. on Monday a man, who got into a verbal dispute earlier in the day with a cell phone store employee, returned to the store located in the 1600 block of East Lincoln Highway in Ford Heights and showed the employee a black semi-automatic gun that was in his waistband.

Alejandro VillanuevaThe employee called police after seeing the firearm. The offender fled the store.

Sheriff’s Police received a description of the offender, who was identified as Alejandro Villanueva, and of the white Ford Taurus he drove. Officers spotted a car that matched the description of the offender’s vehicle parked in the 1100 block of Seeley Avenue in Ford Heights at approximately 9:10 p.m.

Officers positively identified the man in the home as Villanueva when he answered the door. He then shut the door. He refused multiple commands via public announcement system and phone calls to exit the residence.

Neighboring residents were told to shelter-in-place during the incident.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., Villanueva exited the residence and was arrested for aggravated assault and unlawful use of a weapon, both misdemeanors.

A black Beretta handgun and an airsoft gun were recovered from inside the house.

Sheriff Dart reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law.
