ELGIN MAN ARRESTED FOR
SOLICITING A CHILD

Home > Press Page

Friday, June 19, 2009 — Bond was set today for an Elgin man arrested for attempting to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex, according to the Office of Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart.

Ian Janis, 25, was charged with Indecent Solicitation of a Child.  Over the course of one week, Janis had several online conversations with someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl but was actually a detective from the Sheriff’s Police Child Exploitation Unit.  Janis suggested they meet to engage in sex near a fast food restaurant in the Forest Park area.  Janis was subsequently taken into custody without incident.

This is the second arrest, in as many weeks, for this type of crime.  Sheriff Dart reminds parents to be vigilant in supervising their children’s internet usage.  “As the school year ends, children may be spending more time on their home computers and more time conversing in chat rooms,” Dart said.  “I strongly urge parents to talk to their children and stress to them they should not give out their full names and addresses, and to never agree to an in-person meeting with someone they have met over the internet.”

Janis’ bond was set at $50,000 and his next court date is June 23rd at the Maywood Courthouse.
