DART TO BE HONORED WITH ILLINOIS FATHERHOOD INITIATIVE AWARD
Thursday, December 02, 2010—Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart will be honored by the Illinois Fatherhood Initiative as a recipient of their 2010 Ricky Byrdsong Award, spotlighting fathers who have reached out and made a difference in the lives of youth. The award will be presented at noon on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at the Union League Club of Chicago, 65 W. Jackson Blvd.
Dart is being recognized for his dual roles as dedicated father of 5 young children and sheriff of Cook County. Dart is an involved parent who has twice in the past year refused to forsake his own family for the pursuit of his own career. As sheriff, Dart has created many programs, both at Cook County Jail and in the greater community, aimed at improving the lives of children across Cook County. His actions both at home and on behalf of the public speak volumes to his commitment to the principles of dedication and responsibility.
The Illinois Fatherhood Initiative is the country's first state-wide non-profit fatherhood organization, whose mission is to connect children and fathers by promoting responsible fathering and to help equip men to become better fathers and father-figures. The award was created in 2000 and named after the late former Northwestern University basketball coach and AON employee Ricky Byrdsong, who was the father of 3 children.
