COOK COUNTY SHERIFF CONDUCTING
ENHANCED SEAT BELT, DUI ENFORCEMENT

—Cook County Sheriff’s Police will be conducting significant enforcement efforts this weekend, focusing on seat belt and DUI violators, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said today.
Officers will be participating in the Illinois Department of Transportation’s “Click It or Ticket” campaign tonight through Saturday morning and Sunday night through Monday morning.
A DUI enforcement patrol will be conducted tonight through Saturday morning and then again on Saturday night through Sunday morning.
Officers will also be conducting extra patrols looking for all types of suspected violations Saturday night through Sunday morning.
All of this weekend’s enforcements are funded through grants from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
There were six fatalities and almost 600 injuries on Illinois roadways during the 2012 Memorial Day weekend, according to provisional numbers from the Illinois Department of Transportation. Three of those fatalities were alcohol related.
