COURT DEPUTY ARRESTED AFTER
INTERNAL INVESTIGATION
Wednesday, July 14, 2010— Bond was set at $10,000 today for a Cook County Sheriff’s Deputy who is charged with battery causing bodily harm and official misconduct, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced Wednesday.
Rafael Munoz, 34, of Norridge, was arrested Tuesday as a result of an investigation by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office of Professional Review.
The incident happened around 2 a.m. on July 8 while Munoz was working at the lock-up area of the Cook County Circuit Courthouse in Maywood. Munoz was observed approaching a handcuffed, arrested man in a holding cell, then allegedly using excessive force against him. The man was awaiting a bond hearing later that day for an earlier arrest.
Munoz has been a courthouse deputy since 2006. He will be de-deputized while awaiting trial and the internal investigation remains ongoing.
