CONVICTED SEX OFFENDER CHARGED WITH MOLESTING ANOTHER CHILD
Thursday, April 29, 2010 — Bond was set Thursday at $100,000 for a Melrose Park man who was charged with molesting the child of a family friend with whom he was staying – the second time he has molested a child under those circumstances - Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced.
Martin A. Weis, 45, is charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.
Weis had been living with various friends in Melrose Park and the surrounding area while he was between jobs. In early April, sheriff’s investigators were called to a home in the unincorporated area near Melrose Park. The family had allowed Weis to stay with them for about three months, but threw him out after one of their children found suspected child pornography among his belongings.
The investigation found Weis had been molesting one of the children in the family while he was staying with them. That family had no idea that in 1988, Weis was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. In that case, a family had allowed Weis to stay with them until they learned he had been molesting a child in their home.
Because Weis was convicted before sex offenders were required to register in Illinois, he is not listed on any state registry for sex offenders.
Weis appeared in Rolling Meadows court Thursday morning. If he is able to post the $10,000 cash required for his release, he can’t come in contact with the family of the victim, nor can he have any contact with anyone under the age of 18.
His next court date is set for May 19 in Rolling Meadows.
