Saturday, April 13, 2013 Cook County Sheriff’s officers located a 5-month-old girl and her 17-year-old mother on the same day that they were notified the pair was missing, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.

Both mom and daughter are wards of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (IDCFS).

Thursday morning, officers received a child protection warrant to bring the infant back to IDCFS custody.

Officers learned that the mother and child, who were placed with a facility in Bartlett, had come to Chicago on April 6 for a field trip to the Black Women’s Expo at McCormick Place. Afterwards, the two were taken to a shelter in Chicago run by the same agency as the Bartlett facility.

On Monday, April 8, the mother left the shelter with the baby and another 17-year-old IDCFS ward.

Officers located the three minors Thursday evening at a food store located at 63rd Street and South Evans Avenue in Chicago.

All three were returned to IDCFS custody.
