EVICTION MORATORIUM SET
Home > Eviction Moratorium Set
Effective Monday, Dec. 14, all rental and foreclosure evictions will cease for three weeks, due to a judicial order.
On Monday, Nov. 23, Judge E. Kenneth Wright Jr., Presiding Judge of Cook County Circuit Court’s 1st Municipal District, issued a moratorium of all eviction orders from Dec. 14, 2009 until Jan. 4, 2010.
In addition, Judge Wright has ordered the Cook County Sheriff’s Department not to conduct evictions when temperatures are below 15 degrees or – regardless of the temperature – when “extreme weather conditions” exist that would “endanger the health and welfare of those to be evicted.” Those conditions are now in effect and will remain in effect until further notice.
Each day that order is in effect, sheriff’s deputies will make a determination on weather conditions before beginning that day’s evictions.
