2008 Cook County Weather Spotter Classes
January
CCEMA Staff

Listed Below is the Cook County - Severe Weather Spotter Seminars schedule for 2008.

Each of these seminars will be co-sponsored by the National Weather Service, the Cook County Emergency Management Agency, and through various local ESDA/EMA and or Public Safety Agencies that have volunteered to host these seminars throughout Cook County.

All Police/Fire personnel, ESDA/EMA personnel and Public Works/Highway Department personnel, and appropriate village/municipal administrative staff are invited to attend any of these seminars. Traditionally there also are a significant number of volunteers from various local agencies that attend these sessions in addition to members of the general public.

Each seminar should last approximately 2 hours. The National Weather Service provides a meteorologist - severe weather representative that will conduct each seminar. The sessions will feature brief video presentations and various descriptions of severe weather events, followed by a question & answer session. Representatives from both the local ESDA/EMA and the Cook County Emergency Management Agency will briefly discuss proper reporting procedures. The National Weather Service will provide all necessary course materials and handouts, and the Cook County Emergency Management Agency will provide a generic certificate of course completion.

Each of the local ESDA/EMA units that are hosting should be prepared to provide seating for 30 to 40 people. Usually a projection screen/blank white wall and a small table that can be utilized by the meteorologist for his laptop computer & portable projector will be required. Please also remember to provide an electrical power supply to this area.

Refreshments are strictly optional, and at the discretion of the local hosting ESDA/EMA unit. In addition you may want to provide a couple of side tables for the room that can be used for various course materials/ handouts, and a sign-in area.
