Management Information Systems
The Cook County Department of Corrections Canine Unit was established in
January of 1992. The Canine Unit consists of eleven (11) Handlers and Canines.
The Canines include ten (10) German Shepards . The
Sheriff’s Canine Unit is cross trained in obedience, agility, crowd
control, apprehension, 
narcotic detection, area search, building search,
article search and tracking. Utilization of the Sheriff’s Canine Unit
in the Department of Corrections as well as on street patrol has been very
productive and is an extremely effective tool for law enforcement.
