Serving Warrants (Body Attachments)
The warrants of the Sheriff’s Office Civil Division, also referred to as Body Attachments, are typically one of two types, Criminal or Civil.
- Civil Body Attachments
Civil Body Attachments, which normally arise when a judge charges a defendant with Contempt of Court in a civil case, falls under the purview of the Civil Division Warrant Unit. All Civil Body Attachments must be filed at the Daley Center, 50 W. Washington, Chicago, Room 701. The person filing must present two (2) certified copies of the order, a Warrant Unit information sheet and pay $60.00 for the service of the Body Attachment.
- Criminal Body Attachments
Criminal Body Attachments tend to be familial in nature and stem from a father’s failure to pay their court ordered child support and originate from the State’s Attorney’s Office located at 28 N. Clark. The Court Services Department has a unit to handle these specific warrants, the Child Support Enforcement Unit, who will then attempt to execute the Body Attachment.
