Public Safety Impact
The V.R.I.C. program is succeeding in its mission to rehabilitate young adult offenders. A curriculum of military discipline, education, anger management, substance abuse counseling, and job readiness, plus vocational skills shapes an individual who returns to his community with the tools to succeed. To date, over 6,000 inmates have completed the one-year program. The overall rate of those graduates who have found employment or educational opportunities is 40%. The five-year recidivism rate is 35%. That means that five-years after completing the V.R.I.C. program, 6.5 out of every 10 graduates do not return to state prison.
