ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE


The Cook County Sheriff’s Office oversees the Cook County Department of Corrections, Court Services and the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department. The administrative headquarters for the Cook County Sheriff’s Office is located at the Richard J. Daley Center, 50 West Washington Room 704, Chicago, Illinois 60620.

BUDGET AND EMPLOYEE POSITIONS

The Operating Budget for the Cook County Sheriff's Office for Fiscal Year 2013 is $443,515,348. The number of budgeted full time employee positions for Fiscal Year 2013 is 6,533.3.

OBTAINING INFORMATION AND PUBLIC RECORDS FROM
THE COOK COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), 5 ILCS 140/1 et seq., persons requesting records from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office may do so in writing. Standard Cook County Sheriff’s Office FOIA Request Forms are available for your convenience at the Richard J. Daley Center, Room 702 or at the following link

In the event that you would like to submit a request in writing, please include the following:

  1. Requestor’s name, mailing address and daytime phone number.

  2. A detailed description of the records that are being requested. (Please include any relevant information, such as Case Report Number, Booking Number, Eviction Case Number, Address, Date of Incident, Date of Birth, Social Security Number and/or other information that will assist in the search for the desired records.)

  3. If the information or documents requested are being made for a Commercial Purpose, please disclose this in your initial request.

SUBMITTING A FOIA REQUEST TO THE COOK COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

You may submit a FOIA request to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office in any of the following ways:

  1. Via mail to the following address:

    Chicago, Illinois 60602

  2. Via Facsimile Transmission to: (312) 603-4420. Please include “Attn: Freedom of Information Officer” on the cover letter.

  3. Via e-mail to: ccso.foiaofficer@cookcountyil.gov.

  4. In person to Room 702 of the Richard J. Daley Center (50 West Washington, Chicago IL 60602) during business hours Monday through Friday (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) (excluding public holidays).

There is no fee for the first 50 pages of black and white, letter or legal sized copies. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office (“CCSO”) requires a fee of ¢15 cents per page for each page of a request that is more than 50 pages. The requestor must pay the copying fee before the office will release the requested copies. For further information, see 5 ILCS 140/6(b).
